根据牛津英汉双解词典里两个单词英语的解释和以前外教告诉我们两个单词的差别在于
1.college：institution for higher education or professional training 学院; 职业学校
主要是指专门的学院，比如医科大学，体育大学，专门针对某一项研究的专业学院或者我们中国的专科。
2.university： (colleges,buildings, etc of an) institution that teaches and examinesstudents in many branches of advanced learning, awardingdegrees and providing facilities for academic research 大学, 综合性高等学府（的学院、 建筑物等）:
主要是指综合性大学，比如北京大学就有自己的医学学院，法律学院；国外耶鲁，哈佛大学都是拥有综合学院组成的大学
有时候university可以包含college
