Primary
Primary一般多半当形容词是'of the first order in time or temporal sequence; earliest, primitive, original',「在时间上或是暂时的一连串事情里的第一个;最早的、原始的、开头的」意思。 不过,这五十年来,primary成了'a vote in a particular state that is taken by the local members of a political party to elect a candidate for a political office',「一个州的党员推选出任公职候选人的投票」。
He was defeated in the Republican primary, and he has only a few more weeks to serve in the Congress.',「他在***和党初选里落败,所以,在国会服务的时间只剩几个星期了。」
